ABOUT MILESTONES

How it came to be:

​For the last 35 years, CSLA has worked with student leaders across Canada through the Canadian Student Leadership Conference (CSLC) and more recently, Horizons Leadership Conferences and Portage Leadership. Our leadership training spans from coast to coast to coast, and we have heard from you, our student leaders, that you want more specific leadership training.

What is Milestones?

Milestones is a 4-level, self-directed leadership program for student leaders across Canada aged 13-18 that covers all facets of student leadership from the early stages of planning to facilitating events to community outreach, school culture and climate and understanding more about yourself as a leader. LEVEL FOUR

Students will take part in a passion project where they will aim to make a positive change or impact in their community. Students will also complete a leadership development plan that will guide their goals and aspirations in leadership over the next 15 years. This program requires regular meetings with our instructional team and students are encouraged to seek out additional mentorship in their school or community.

  • Do I have to work on the program on specific days and times?
    This program is a self-directed study, which means you can work at your own pace throughout.

  • What is in it for me?
    Milestones is a 4-level certification program offered by the Canadian Student Leadership Association. Following the completion of each level, students will be awarded a certificate of completion, and receive access to the resources from the program in a Student Google Drive. Once all four levels are completed, students will receive an additional certificate recognizing this accomplishment and their dedication to personal development in leadership. Milestones can be done by students on their own time and through their own initiative, or through their classroom/school. This program can help compliment in-class or extra-curricular learning. Our goal is that our weekly online meetings will help students by:​ Reviewing their work with their peers and Milestones instructors Making face to face connections with students from across Canada Learning about leadership from valued community partners Discussing their goals and next-steps on their own leadership journeys Our program instructors for Level I will be available at any time through the program, and are committed to ensuring student leaders get the best experience, education and personal leadership development from this program! Although this is a self-directed program, our instructors will be along for the ride to assist whenever needed.
