The cake auction became a popular fundraiser at Huron Heights Secondary in Kitchener. Students would volunteer to bake or purchase a creative cake to be auctioned off. There are different categories and awards are given to the bakers in each category. For one week leading up to auction day each homeroom class collects money to be used for the auction.
On auction day everyone brings in their cake to be displayed around the perimeter of the cafeteria – many students and staff arrive early that day to look at all the cakes. Two representatives from each homeroom class come down to the cafeteria for the auction and to bid. Classes that amass a lot of money can win multiple cakes! As soon as a cake is won, it can be brought up to the class to be eaten!
All the money earned from the homeroom collection is eventually handed in and counted up to be donated to the charity of choice.
