Great Oak High School recognizes their scholar athletes with a certificate and Skittles. The bag of candy may sound a bit juvenile, but it’s like a “gold star” for effort and students look forward to being recognized in the Skittles for Scholars program.
They receive a card along with their candy prize that states:
Congratulations! You have earned recognition with “Scholar Athlete” Award. Your coaches have chosen you because you have maintained good grades along with keeping up your sport practices.
You show others that sports are a great way to participate in school, but that grades are also important.
